Custom housing for components
At S[&]T they provide software and hardware solutions for all kinds of issues related to space. This includes questions about signals from navigation satellites.
Challenge
Everyone uses navigation satellites from time to time, and often without even realizing it. For example, finding the route to your vacation destination, but also think of aircraft and ship navigation. Because many users rely on satellite signals for their navigation, it is important that these signals are well monitored. S[&]T has developed a system that can monitor disruptions and/or spoofing of satellite navigation signals. To properly test this system, a box was needed to protect the components of the system. The box should be easy to use for testing, and thus be handheld.
Solution
This project was a bit of a switch for us. Normally we design products that are produced in larger numbers, however at this stage of the project only a few boxes will be ordered. To increase functionality, two different enclosures were designed to guarantee the components. All components have been given a logical place and are also fixed where possible.
Result
By first 3D-printing the designs of the boxes at our workshop, S[&]T was able to install the components in the relevant places to see if everything was right and do the first tests. Then, when this was satisfactory, the enclosures were milled from aluminum at one of our partners. By now the boxes have been fully installed and the tests have been carried out successfully. All kinds of design wishes emerged that will be included in the next development phase.
