1. Mechanisms and Mechanical Devices
This book is for true technical designers. For example, if you’re working on products that require drives and motion, this book is the perfect source of inspiration. While the book may be a bit dated, the illustrations are ideal for quickly gaining insight into the possibilities available to you as a designer.
  2. Material Selection for Designers
This book covers the basics of material design. Its clear list of materials and specifications, found at the very back, makes it ideal. The most commonly used construction formulas are also included there. We have this book lying around the office and refer to it several times a week for quick reference.
  3. Fabory catalog
It might not be much of a book, but it always comes in handy. A huge number of products come with nuts, bolts, and other fasteners. You could, of course, design your own screw, but that’s not really useful… Everything in this area has already been invented and optimized down to the last fiber. Besides, everything that’s standard is inexpensive. A catalog that’s as complete as possible and covers as many fasteners as possible is ideal for a designer. We personally have the Fabory one on our shelves, but there are, of course, many more.
  4. Technical Pocketbook
This book really needs no introduction! Every engineer has had to browse through it at some point. Because design is such a multifaceted field, it’s impossible to remember all the calculations, formulas, and mnemonics. The answer can be found in the Technical Pocketbook.
  5. Delft Design Guide
As a Delft design agency, this book is a must-have. Design principles, tips, and tricks—everything is covered. Several colleagues from Fabrique Strategic Design have also contributed to this book.
