As an industrial designer, you perform a variety of tasks; for example, you must translate the client’s requirements and wishes into a design that also meets the target audience. You’re also constantly working to create a product that is both feasible and affordable, while also ensuring the product or construction is reliable.
There are many methods for testing your design against all kinds of forces. This can be done by building prototypes or by performing complex force analyses on your digital 3D model. However, these are significantly expensive processes that are only applicable when the product is already in the advanced design stages.
In order to be able to calculate things early on in the design process, we have the: ‘forget-me-nots’, the formulas to calculate the strength and stiffness of simple structures.
Every designer at our firm can use this. Once a design is complete, it allows for quick assessment of whether a component is deflecting too much or whether too much material has been added. These crucial calculations allow the designer to achieve both the minimum and maximum yields.
The construction regulations guide us in achieving a reliable end product. When a project involves crucial components or complex load cases, we switch to FEM analyses. These can be performed by our partner or by a firm of our choosing.
